On Oct. 5 girls’ golf won sectionals with a score of 333 points, qualifying for state for a second year in a row and setting a new school record for total score (previously 334). They beat four other schools, including second place Kickapoo High School who they beat by 16 points.
“It’s an amazing feeling to know that we just won sectionals. It shows how hard we have worked this season. All of the hours we have put into this season has definitely paid off,” sophomore Amanda Baker said. “I struggled a lot [during the tournament]. … but at the end I knew the rest of the team would come through, and they did.”
While the team is proud of their victory, it is now setting a higher goal – capturing the state title. Girls’ golf took fourth at state last year, but they hope to win first place on Oct. 17 -18.
“I know in the next week we will have to give it all we’ve got,” Baker said. “If we continue to encourage each other and play to our fullest, then, I believe, we have the potential to win state.”
