The boys soccer team took its second victory of the season against cross-town rival Hickman High School  Tuesday, Oct. 11. The Bruins dominated the Kewpies 6-0.
Senior Ryan Schmidt scored two of the six goals, including one within the first 10 minutes of the game.
“I came into the game expecting to win,” Schmidt said. “We were really focused before the game and the first goal set the tone of the game right away.”
Even though the Bruins didn’t have a home-field advantage, that did not stop the Bruins from utilizing the skills they have been practicing. The team made four of their goals from corner kicks, a large part of their focus.
“We’ve been doing a lot of corner kick practice to try and generate some goals off of that,” Schmidt said. “We focus on that but have fun during practices.”
Their strategy has paid off so far. With a record of 16-3, the team believes it will continue to prosper. Winning against the rival team only helped to boost their confidence.
“It definitely made us feel good,” Schmidt said. “I think it proved to all of us that we deserve to be ranked second [in the state].”
