Boys basketball clobbers Smith-Cotton, advances to district championship

After a first-round bye in the district tournament, the top-seeded RBHS boys basketball team (21-4) crushed host Smith-Cotton (9-17) yesterday in the district semifinal game by a score of 63-17.
“We had already beat [Smith-Cotton] once this season, so we didn’t expect to lose,” senior point guard Corey Haith said. “But we still had to come out and compete hard.”
Haith was back from injury for the first time in over a month, and senior Jordan Stevens came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points. The Bruins’ bench scored over half the team’s points, as the game was out of hand from the very beginning.
The Bruins will face their archrival Hickman in the district championship game Friday night at 7:45 p.m. at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia. It will be the third time this season the teams have faced each other.
“Obviously we want to play them because they’re our rival, but it’s not going to be easy,” Haith said. “It’s hard to beat a team three times in a season, and even though we’ve beat them by double-digits, that’s probably not going to be the case this time.”
