Boys golf repeats district win, continues post-season

The boys golf team walked off green with yet another victory at the Meadowlake Country Club. But this time, the Bruins didn’t just win a normal match; the team now holds its third consecutive district title.
Although the Bruins competed against multiple schools including Jefferson City, Hickman, West Plaines, Rolla, Camendonten, Waynesville, and Washinton, they did not let the variety of competition affect their scores.
“We were just mostly focused on playing well ourselves,” sophomore Jackson Dubinski said. The boys “knew we’d be fine if we did that.”
Through the heavy competition,  the Bruins not only took first as a team, but senior Will Echelmeier took first individually, shooting 74.
“This win for the team and for me individually feels great,” Echelmeier said. “It’s always good to win and makes the game even more enjoyable.”
Not only did Echelmeier perfrom well individually, but the whole Bruin team did outstanding. Freshman Jack Knoesel shot a 78, placing 5th; freshman Matt Echelmeier shot a close 79, placing 6th, senior Austin Evens shot an 80, placing 9th and Dubinski shot an 81, placing 10th.
“Well, we all placed, so it was great,” Dubinski said. “It’s good because anyone on our team can shoot low 70s on any given day. So even if someone has a bad day, like I did today, then the rest of the guys can pick me up.”
In their next match, the Bruins will compete for the 2012 sectional title Wednesday, May 2  in Springfield. Things are looking good for the boy golfers, and with a little tweaking on the game, the boys might just be able to continue their winning streak and becoming state champions two years in a row.
“I think I’ll be fine at sectionals,”  Dubinski said. “I’ve got a week to go practice and touch up somethings so I’m looking forward to it. I think this group of guys can go very far.”
