Rock Bridge High School recognized senior Matt Kelly as the Bruin Pride recipient without all the pizzazz of a large ceremony.
Because there was a lack of recipients, the activities office canceled the official Bruin Pride Award ceremony that was to be held in the PAC lobby Wednesday, April 18.
The Bruin Pride Award recognizes students for effort that goes above and beyond what is normally expected, according to the activities director David Bones. Teachers may select one student to honor for outstanding work at the after school program.
“I selected Matt Kelly for the Bruin Pride award because he make’s [the BruCrew] unique. Sometimes cheering sections can be pretty negative,” social studies teacher Matt Dingler said, “but under his leadership it has been a positive place; it has been something that everybody can join in.”
Kelly was more than happy to receive the Bruin Pride award, calling the reception “fantastic.”  The ceremony was short, sweet, and both he and Dingler said it was a fun ceremony no matter the size.
“It was awesome,” Dingler said. “We had a cookie that we had cut into four sections.”
