Unlike his first few games as starting quarterback, Sophomore Logan Twehous seemed to be overwhelmed by the obviously strong Ray-Pec defense.
“[I do] a lot of pre-snap reads of the defensive secondary,” said Twehous. “I look to see how many safeties there are and where the cornerbacks are.”
Despite his previous wins, Twehous struggled significantly against the Ray-Pec defense, admitting that although it was a tough game, he could have improved his playing.
“The coaches saw that the receivers were open,” said Twehous, “but I just wasn’t making the throws I needed to.”
Twehous had a completion percentage of only 51.6 percent, throwing one late game interception. The Bruins’ offense had only 260 yards, 3 turnovers and a 3rd down conversion percentage of 30.8. RBHS fought a losing battle with offensive production.
Individually, RBHS made many great plays. Wide receiver junior Zach Reuter played an excellent game, with 94 reception yards and a touchdown. Linebacker senior Matt Bush also had an impressive four tackles and a fumble recovery on a punt.
The Bruins hope to not only improve their physical game but also their mental game. By watching their games on tape and studying their mistakes, the team continues their preparation for the Providence Bowl against cross-town rivals Hickman High School.
“We just have to get back to being focused and working hard,” Twehous said.
This loss is the Bruins’ first of the season and puts their record at 2-1. Their next game, the Providence Bowl, will be held on Friday, Sept. 21 at Faurot Field.
