Queen candidates volunteer at Central Missouri Food Bank

For the fourth day of homecoming week, students car-pooled to the Central Missouri Food Bank to volunteer from 3:45 p.m. -6 p.m.by helping to package frozen food.
“It was really fun coming together with students of Rock Bridge knowing we were helping out the community,” senior Mallory Short said, one of the many students who showed up for the event.
Homecoming queen candidate Taylour Wilson said the experience, like the other philanthropic activities which students have executed this week, was fun and fulfilling.
“It was a lot of fun being able to go volunteer and serve with other Rock Bridge students,” Wilson said. “It’s a good feeling to know that high school kids are willing give their time to something like that.”
Fellow queen candidate Annie Rumpf agrees that giving back to the community through helping package food was an unrivaled experience.  She said knowing the work that they did will be improving the lives of the less fortunate throughout central Missouri makes the volunteer work worthwhile.
“It was wonderful,” Rumpf said.  “I felt like I’ve truly made a difference this week, and nothing brings more happiness than bringing happiness to others.”
Although homecoming week will soon end, coloring the community with RBHS spirit has left many students inspired. Volunteer action will likely continue throughout the year among those who have realized the merit in giving back.
“A couple of the other queen candidates and I were talking about how great it would be to get together and continue doing little volunteer things throughout the rest of the school year,” Wilson said. “It’s been such a positive experience for all of us and hopefully it can help to encourage others to get out and do the same.”
