On Friday, Nov. 30, the RBHS boys basketball team traveled to Kansas City to play in its first tournament of the year, with its first game of the season against East Kansas City.
The Bruins came out firing in the first half, showing the Bears what the Bruins were made of early, but as the game wore on, the RBHS play started to wear down.
After a rough shooting performance throughout the second period, RBHS and East Kansas City tied at the end of the first half at 26.
In the second half, the Bruins came out hot, doing much better with hitting their shots and showing excellent ball movement to spread the floor and get easy shots under the basket. The RBHS boys took a comfortable lead in fourth quarter and held it to hold onto the win, 58-44.
“We started playing much better as a team in the second half,” senior David Leitao said. “We really stepped up our defense and took more control of the game.”
