Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m, the RBHS stadium will be the scene of a candlelight vigil in memory of Anna Alioto.
Anna Alioto, class of 2012, passed away Friday, Nov. 30 at Northern Michigan University where she was a student. Alioto (1994-2012) is survived by her two parents, Anthony and Armine Alioto.
Anna Alioto played for the RBHS girls soccer team and was involved with the Olympic Development Program. She also played on the powderpuff football team her senior year at RBHS.
Northern Michigan University Director of Communications, Cindy Paavola, said Alioto’s death is the result of what they “assume is a drowning.” Foul play was ruled out almost immediately, Paavola said, and an autopsy performed yesterday afternoon will show the official results in two to three weeks. The investigation of Alioto’s death is ongoing.
“They’re trying to develop a timeline from the point of the last time her teammates saw her to the time when her body was found,” Paavola said. “They’re trying to recreate the setting of what was happening that afternoon, what she had participated in, because at this point we don’t know exactly why she drowned.”
The body has been released to the family, and the funeral will be in in Columbia, MO. Saturday. The visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, and the memorial service will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church.
