After school today, Dec. 18, the Performing Arts Center will be hosting a free choir and orchestra concert open at 7 p.m.
The venue will include pieces centered on the holidays, including songs such as “Fantasia,” which will be performed by the RBHS orchestra.
“The concert is centered around winter and the holiday season and features a lot of Christmas music,” senior Morgan Widhalm said, “but every song is not necessarily about Christmas.”
In addition to this concert, the Performing Arts Center puts on three other concerts throughout the year, including a fall concert, winter concert, contest send-off and final spring concert for each music ensemble.
The groups prepare throughout the year to perfect their pieces, sophomore Emily Reynolds said.
“RBHS orchestra works very hard on all our pieces, and perfects them to such an extent, we could play it in our sleep,” Reynolds said. “ … The winter concert is probably one of the best concerts because we get to perform with the choir … That way we can have a different vibe than we originally have with just one group playing.”
Songs the choir will sing include “Welcome Yule” and “Winter,” while the orchestra will play numbers such as “Sleigh Bells” and “The Holly and the Ivy.” Both music groups will collaborate on songs such as “Personent Hodie.” Admission is free, and the doors are open throughout the performance.
