Bruins defeat neighboring Jefferson City Jays

On Jan. 29, the RBHS Bruins played the Jefferson City Jays on home court. The Bru Crew-deemed “White trash” night provided an interesting crowd for the Bruins, with people dressed in wife beaters, tight jeans, boots and more. In the tough atmosphere, the RBHS boys were able to come through with a 70-46 win against the Jays.
The Bruins took a quick lead early and held onto it throughout the game. Excellent ball movement and good defense was key for the boys in this game. At the end of the half, RBHS held a comfortable lead of 33-22.
In the third quarter, the Bruins nearly shut down the Jays with aggressive defense, letting less than ten points slip through while gaining more than that themselves. The highlights of the game both came during the second half, when sophomore Ryan Kreklow got a breakaway from a steal and dunked the ball and a few minutes later, when senior David Leitao got in on the rim-jamming action by throwing down an alley hoop from junior Nick Norton.
“I just saw the pass coming, used all the energy I had, tried to psyche the crowd up a little bit and threw it down,” David Laitao said.
