Halftime performance, second half intrigues students

Last Sunday, Feb. 3rd, marked a day in Super Bowl history as being one of the most memorable games played.  The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers squared off in a match that pitted brother against brother.  While many believed that the 49ers talented defense and the Ravens explosive offense would create a tightly even race, the Ravens dominated early, leaving the score 28-6 at the end of the first half.
Beyonce performed the Pepsi Halftime Show with a medley of various songs, as well as singing in a reunion with Destiny’s Child, clad in a short leather unitard.  The audience and people across the nation praised Beyonce for her singing and dance performance, which included several special lights and effects, after receiving heat from lip-syncing the National Anthem at the Presidential Inauguration.
Coming into the second half, the Baltimore Ravens extended their lead by seven on the first play by running back the kick-off 108 yards to the end zone.  Although hopes for a win began to look dismal for the 49ers, the game was suddenly brought to an abrupt halt due to half the lights in the New Orleans Super Dome powering off from a power outage. After a 31 minute delay, the game continued with San Francisco on offense. Momentum quickly changed sides leading to 17 unanswered points by the 49ers, getting as close as 31-29. The game came down to the final minutes when the 49ers were given two minutes in the Baltimore red zone to attempt to take the lead for the first time in the game.
However, after four unsuccessful downs the 49ers turned the ball over to the Ravens. Holding the Ravens to four downs and no timeouts, the 49ers would get the ball back with about nine seconds on the clock. But as a ploy to take additional time off the clock, the Ravens took a safety in their own end zone, resulting in two points for the 49ers and the opportunity to receive a punt kicked off from the Baltimore 20 yard line with four seconds on the clock.  Being able to force overtime with a field goal, the 49er receiver would have to get into field goal range and run out of bounds in three seconds or less. Unfortunately for San Francisco, time ran out on the return leaving the Baltimore Ravens with their second Super Bowl victory in Ravens franchise history.

“She actually sung, which was nice. I thought it was pretty good. I’m not a big fan of her though, but it was a nice performance. It was crazy and awesome.”
“The 49ers were able to keep it an interesting game even though they were down. I enjoyed the fight. The guys were kind of yelling at each other and getting into each others’ faces.”

“It was really good. [Her live singing] and the effects were really cool. And she brought back Destiny’s Child, which was really cool.”
“The 49ers coming back 22 points. They’re usually down at halftime and they usually come back to win the game, so I think that mindset contributed to that.”

“It was raw. She’s raw. It was the best. It’s just Beyonce.”
“That last play when they took that safety. I’m like, “C’mon, man.”

“I really liked it. I thought it was good. The effects were cool, like on the screen behind her and everything.”
“When the lights went out, that was kind of unexpected.

“She did really well, compared to some other people I’ve seen. She’s a really good singer, and like The Black Eyed Peas a couple years ago, it just didn’t work for them but she made it work. She was just really interactive with the people and all the fireworks and the lights were really cool.”
“I think it was the 49ers coming back to almost winning it. The lights going out in the dome, that was pretty crazy.”

“Honestly, I thought she could have sang a little more, but as for the times she did sing, I thought it was really good. It wasn’t really a performance, it was more of a show. It was really entertaining, so I would probably give it a nine [out of ten], but if I saw her for the first time, I would probably wouldn’t think she was really talented so I would probably give her a seven just because she didn’t sing very much so you don’t really know unless they sing.”
“When the 49ers almost came back and won. With sports, so it has a lot to do with adrenaline and stamina, and I’m sure when they got back to the locker room the coach gave them a good pep talk.”
