The RBHS Girls Basketball team faced off last night, Feb. 15, against Miller Career Academy in one of their final games before districts.  The game was a decisive victory for the Bruins, as they won 76-41.
It was a great overall performance, in which the team came out hot and carried their momentum throughout the game.  Although it was a solid game for the entire team, a few very strong performances helped the Lady Bruins come out victorious.
No. 3 sophomore guard Sophie Cunningham played a huge role in leading the team to victory, scoring 23 points. Center, No. 23, Cierra Porter also turned in a strong performance, scoring 19 points.
The team had “really good shots from the outside, nice passes, and running the floor [won the game],” said Cunningham.
This RBHS girls basketball team seems to have a lot of success when they are able to keep up a nice tempo and hit their open shots, which they were able to do last night.
Yesterday’s win makes two straight dominating wins for the varsity team as they also beat Jefferson City High School by 46 points last weekend and with a record of 17-5. The team hopes to carry over the momentum from these two huge wins to next weekend against Nerinx Hall, their last game before the districts tournament begins. The team heads into the grueling and critical last stretch of the season.
Overall, last night’s game was a very positive one for the team. Not only did they win by 35 points, but they also displayed their team chemistry on the court.
“Everyone played super well,” said Cunningham. “We all stayed together and were laughing and smiling out on the court, which really helped us have fun and stay focused.”
