Monday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the varsity boys golf team attended a tournament at the Jefferson City Country Club, where they came in 5th after a frustrating match. The golfers played a host of teams, notably Rockhurst High School, last year’s state champions, and Timberland High School, who won first in the match.

“I think I speak for everyone when I say we didn’t play our best, not nearly as good as we can play,” junior Jackson Dubinski said. “We had a lot of guys struggle. It was a pretty tough course.”

With a par of 72, Dubinski tied three other team members for their best score of 81. While the boys had a slump today, Dubinski said he is still confident about the team’s future.

“I shot 81, I didn’t play very well. I got off to kind of a bad, rocky start. [I] started to play better toward the end of the round but just couldn’t get anything going,” Dubinski said. “I think we’ll be fine. We have four sophomores, and I’m the only junior, so we’re pretty young, and we put up some pretty good scores before this tournament; I think we’re going to be fine.”

The team is not having formal practice, Dubinski said, and each member is instead working on his own, perfecting his craft. After practicing tomorrow, the team has a tournament on Wednesday and Thursday again, before driving down to Springfield on Sunday for districts on Monday.

“We’ll be fine; we’ve just [been having] an off day,” Dubinski said. “We just got a couple more tournaments until districts, so I think we’ll be good.”

Golf needs to pick it up!! We are a little low on state titles this year. BG needs to pick up the slack.
