Girls golf places third at Capital City Tournament

Today, the varsity girls golf team placed third in Jefferson City at the annual Capital City Tournament. Trailing Warrensburg by three points, the team score totaled 359 toward the end of the match. Though the Bruins placed third, senior Amanda Baker thinks the team could have had a better game.

“Our team did OK. It definitely wasn’t our best. We all agreed we could have done better and where we could have shaved some strokes off,” Baker said. “Personally, I was doing good on the front nine and them on the back nine I began to struggle. I had one bad hole that hurt my score, which was frustrating. “

With districts coming up in less than a week, Baker hopes to improve upon today’s match. But even with a hometown advantage, the Bruins still have other skills to focus on. Baker thinks that the mental game will be just as important as the physical side.

“I think all of us need to work on our mental game because we all get too hard on ourselves. I think if we focus at practice this week and prepare our bodies well then we will succeed at districts,” Baker said. “We all want to perform our best especially since this year we haven’t had many days where we all do well. Hopefully it will be a day that we can all come together and play well.”

Districts will be Oct. 7 at Gustin Golf Course. There, the Bruins will go up against teams vying for a spot at regionals and state. Up for their possible third state title in a row, Baker thinks anything is possible in the coming weeks.

“We can all look at our rounds today and know what we need to work on,” Baker said. “I think these next few weeks are going to be crucial in focusing. I know we are all planning on going to state so hopefully we can accomplish that.”
