1. Godzilla

The infamous Godzilla film franchise will return on May 16, featuring a killer cast that includes Aaron Johnson, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen. The film will feature a comeback from perhaps one of the most terrifying monsters in cinematic history, whose existence threatens human life. The movie is expected to sweep the box office, with early insider estimates placing the expected revenue at $60 million or more.

2. X-Men: Days of Future Past

On May 23, Wolverine returns on a quest to save mankind and mutants alike from a terrifying future. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film will feature your favorite X-Men characters joining forces with their past selves to rescue the world from an event which would doom all forms of life. Including a healthy share of time travel, epic battle scenes and performances from renowned actors such as Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence, the film is sure to satisfy your action-adventure cravings.

3. Maleficent

Coming to theaters May 30, Maleficent reveals the untold story of the villain from the classic Disney fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent’s innocent beginnings are revealed through the narration of her peaceful childhood as beautiful black-winged young girl, which is interrupted by an invasion of humans in her forest kingdom. Maleficent is ready to protect her beloved home, but is turned cold by a heartbreaking betrayal and ends up placing a curse on infant Aurora, who grows into the Sleeping Beauty whose story is widely known. As Aurora grows older, Maleficent must come to the realization of how the cursed infant may help bring peace to their society. With performances from Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, this film will spice up your summer by giving an unsuspected twist on a classic fairytale.

4. Edge of Tomorrow

Another sci-fi action-adventure, set to release June 6, will feature Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in an inter-cosmic war with alien lifeforms. The movie follows heroic soldier Bill Cage, who gets caught in a tumultuous time loop on the last day of battle and must navigate through the fabric of space and time to return home and help his fellow soldiers achieve victory. The film is an adaption of Japanese light novel All You Need is Kill and will provide you with just enough time travel adventure to get you through the summer.

5. How to Train Your Dragon 2

The animated favorite for adults and children alike, Dreamworks’ How to Train your Dragon, will be returning to the big screen on June 13 with a much anticipated sequel. Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the film narrates the life of Hiccup, your average teen viking who struggles as the black sheep of his tribe. When a new species of dragon emerges from an ice cave, unlike any encountered before, Hiccup must step up to the plate to stop the impending battle and save mankind and dragons alike from a future of interspecies conflict. This family friendly action-comedy is certain have you laughing, screaming and asking your parents for a pet dragon.

6. 22 Jump Street

Picking up on June 13 where 21 Jump Street left off, police officers Schmidt and Jenko go undercover at a college, where they fall subject to various stereotype roles and begin to question their friendship and ability to work together as a team. As the two re-live their college experience under a false facade, they must work to maintain their partnership, do their job and finally mature into adulthood. The sequel will likely you have you laughing just as much as the original film, with returning performances from Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in this hysterical action-comedy.

7. Transformers: Age of Extinction

This sci-fi action adventure emerges as the fourth film in the live-action Transformers series, featuring lead role Mark Wahlberg and directed by Michael Bay. When a mechanic and his daughter make a dangerous discovery, they face the wrath of Autobots, Decepticons and high-profile government agents, who all seek to silence them. Set to release on June 27, this film will quench your mid-summer sci-fi hankering.

8. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Coming July 11, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes follows the struggle of a group of humans who survived the deadly virus which ran rampant years before and now face conflict against an increasingly large population of genetically evolved apes, lead by the head ape Caesar. The disagreement soon escalates into a full-blown human versus primate war, bringing into questions which species will remain the dominant inhabitants of the planet Earth. Directed by Matt Reeves and featuring performances from Andy Serkis and Judy Greer, this sci-fi action-drama will give your summer an exciting twist.

9. Hercules  

Greek Demigod Hercules has finally finished his 12 labors, but chooses to return to Ancient Greece as a mercenary with 5 close friends and a reputation ensuring no one will mess with him.  When he is called upon by the Kind of Thrace and his daughter to aid in the defeat of an evil warlord, he must live up to the legend he is and fight for the future of his homeland. Featuring Dwayne Johnson and Irena Shayk, the film will release on July 25 and is based on the novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

10. Guardians of the Galaxy

Far out in the cosmos, American pilot Peter Quill comes across a mysterious orb and soon finds himself subject to the wrath of Ronan, an evil cosmic villain. In an effort to defeat Ronan and protect the coveted orb, Quill teams up with four super-human mutants, all with unique powers and personality quirks, to protect the future of the galaxy. The film features Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper and is set to release Aug. 1.
