13 Bruins commit to colleges on National Signing Day

[heading]Weather holds off official signing by 24 hours[/heading]While icy roads and chilly temperatures kept Columbia Public Schools from being in session for the fourth straight day, it could not prevent the RBHS Cafeteria from filling up this afternoon, Feb. 7, to witness 13 Bruin athletes signing  their letters of intent to continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Many sports were represented as members of the football, cross country, girls golf, diving, and girls soccer teams all made their college decisions official.  For football, Zach Reuter signed with Kansas State University, Jace Neville with the University of Memphis, Ross Alexander with Georgia Southern University, Elisha Peat with Missouri Western State University, Brayden Parker with Lindenwood University and Eli Stout with Baker University.
Reuter in particular was a bit of an interesting story.  The 6 foot 3, 190 pound receiver established himself firmly in the MSHSAA record books this season by hauling in 81 passes for 1,545 yards and 24 touchdowns.  The touchdown mark equaled the senior year total of University of Missouri receiver Dorial Green-Beckham when he was the nation’s top recruit out of Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Mo. Despite the striking numbers, Reuter was lightly recruited with his biggest offers coming from Navy and Georgia Southern.  Kansas State swooped in late, however, to snatch the Bruin wideout giving him the big offer he wanted.

“I wasn’t recruited very heavily,” Reuter said. “So when I got the offer from Kansas State, I took it.  I went to a few camps there so they knew the kind of athlete I was.  I’m sure that helped in their decision to offer me.”

From the cross country team Evan Schulte and Zach Cook both announced their intentions to attend the University of Missouri together, while Maddie May will continue running at Central Missouri University.

“I’m really excited to get to continue my running career with Zach,” Schulte said.  “I’ve known him since we were four and we played on the same soccer team up until we went out for the cross country team.  He’s been like a brother to me and I’m glad I get the chance to run with him at Mizzou.”

From girls soccer Madison Boyken signed with Central Missouri University while Haleigh Fancher signed with Texas Tech University.  From girls golf Amanda Baker will attend William Jewell College while from diving, Abby Stone will attend the U.S. Naval Academy.
