[heading]Rockhurst 47, Rock Bridge 28 [/heading] The Bruins’ football team lost its second consecutive game at Rockhurst Friday, Oct. 11, by a lopsided score of 47-28. The Bruins’ offense did not produce the offensive numbers that it did earlier this season against Har-Ber High School, DeSmet High School, and Fort Zumwalt West High School.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth defensive battle with no scores until junior quarterback Logan Twehous threw an interception that led to a RHS touchdown two plays later.
The Bruins’ offense bounced back in the second quarter, with Twehous throwing a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Zach Reuter to tie the game 7-7. After that, RBHS’ defense was never able to effectively stop RHS, and the Hawklets sustained three consecutive touchdown drives.
RBHS’ defense continued to struggle as RHS scored a combined 40 points in the last three quarters. And although RBHS scored three more touchdowns in the second half, they could not match RHS’ scores due to the two interceptions that Twehous threw and four turnover-on-downs. RHS’ offense had no interceptions, fumbles, or turnover-on-downs.
Junior linebacker Matt Troyer characterizes the struggles of the Bruins’ defense as not capitalizing on key plays.
“We had some good stops early,” Troyer said. “But we gave up too many big plays.”
