By this time of year, the leaves have already turned to their warmer hues and the ground is rife with these crisp leaves, making it clear that we are in the midst of the fall season. Despite the changes in nature, there has most definitely been a change in stores, restaurants and even on Pinterest. Plenty of boards and pins, recipes and drinks are now dedicated to fall recipes, crafts and fall fashion, thus making my choice for this DIY not a surprise at all.
The ever-famous Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks is one of my favorite drinks for the fall season, but the price isn’t something I love to spend all the time. Thus, my joy in discovering a DIY recipe for the Pumpkin Spice Latte on Pinterest was unfathomable, and I decided to put my beverage-making skills to the test.

You will need:

  • 3 cups of warm whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. of sugar
  • ½ tsp. of vanilla
  • ½ tsp. of pumpkin pie spice
  • ¾ cup of brewed coffee
  • A little bit of lightly whipped cream
  • A dash of pumpkin spice
  • Blender
  • 2-3 mugs

To make the Pumpkin Spice Latte:

  1. First, pour in the hot milk, sugar, vanilla and pumpkin pie spice into the blender. Cover the blender to avoid any mishaps, and blend the mixture on the “pulse” setting.
  2. Continue to blend until you achieve the desired consistency. I decided to continue the process until the mixture was frothy.
  3. Take out your coffee mugs, and pour in the DIY latte about 2/3 of the way full.
  4. To finish off the treat, you can top it off with a bit of lightly whipped cream and a dash of pumpkin spice.

After finishing the recipe, I can honestly say I am quite satisfied with the product. Though this DIY version of the Pumpkin Spice Latte isn’t exactly the same as the beverage from Starbucks, I consider the two quite comparable. The Starbucks version is a bit richer and creamier, but both are perfect for providing enjoyment and comfort on a chilly fall morning or evening.
The fact that the ingredients were easily accessible, the preparation time was quick (a mere 5 minutes) and, most importantly, that the cost was so inexpensive convinces me that this drink will be an ever-present beverage in my life this fall. So whip out these quick ingredients, get blending and enjoy a delicious Pumpkin Spice Latte that you can be proud to say you made yourself.
