[heading]Rock Bridge 73, Raytown South 61[/heading] A week off of school has not proven detrimental to the RBHS boys basketball team this week. Because of last week’s emotional and intense rivalry win over Hickman, the Bruins (15-3) climbed to #5 in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association rankings, jumping over the now-#6 Kewpies (18-2). However, there was no let-down in the team’s efforts.
After a tight first half, the Bruins led 30-27 going into halftime at home. A 14-4 run to start the second helped RBHS begin to pull away, and the lead ballooned to 50-35 heading into the final quarter. The team’s defense and teamwork helped lead the way to the win, according to senior guard Jackson Dubinski.
“We basically found a spark in the second half,” Dubinski said. “We started getting to the rim and shut them down defensively. We shared the ball really well, I think we had four guys in double figures tonight.”
With five regular-season games remaining, the district tournament is less than a month away now. The potential rematch with Hickman looms on the horizon for the team, but for Dubinski and the rest of the Bruins, the future looks bright.
“We’re starting to peak at the right time,” Dubinski said.
