The beautiful weather and sunshine Monday, May 5 at Old Kinderhook south of Columbia overlooked RBHS’s boys golf team as they won the district golf championship.

“Our team shot 304,” junior Matt Echelmeier said. “We won by a substantial amount.”
Echelmeier, with a score of 71, tied with Michael Pfitzner, a player from Camdenton High School,  for the individual district title. The Bruins beat the second place team, Camdenton, by 21 points in the district tournament.
In before Echelmeier, junior Jack Knoesel shot 79. After Knoesel, Jackson Dubinski came in with a 79 as well.
“Winning today as a team was a great sign of our potential performance,” Echelmeier said. “It reassured us that we can make a very strong push at the state tournament this year.”
Sophomores Ben Humphreys and Steven Sowers were the final two players to finish on the team, and they both scored a 77, with a total team score of 304.
“We got the job done and got the win,” Knoesel said. “As for the next round, I want to win, as I always do.”
The five Bruins will compete Monday in the sectional tournament at Carthage, with high hopes of another win.
“The guys can always improve, they know that,” coach Doug Daniels said. “That’s why they practice. It’s a game that always requires attention and lots of practice or you lose your edge.”
The boys golf team will play at the state tournament May 19-20, Daniels said.
“We have had good teams at Rock Bridge for the past five years,” Daniels said. “We have to get through the sectional tournament this Monday first, then we travel to state. If we play well, I think we have a good chance.”’
