Student View: Midterm Elections

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, it was the midterm election day. A midterm election refers to a type of election where the people can elect their representatives in the middle of the term of the executive or of another set of members. This is usually used to describe elections to an upper house of a legislature where only a fraction of seats are up. People start to wonder whether these midterm elections are actually important.

Shyleah-Jones
“Well, midterm elections are important because as people in the United States, it’s more important for us to vote during midterm elections. We actually have less voter turn out than other neighboring countries. I think it would just be helpful if we just vote for the midterms, just to know where we stand as in who were are voting for as candidates,” senior Shyleah Jones said.
Alex-Parks
“I think it’s just with any elections like they are important because I personally feel that if you’re a citizen of some community, that it is a civic duty to participate politically like voting, mainly it’s the best way. I feel like midterms are important because they are just as important because they regulate what is further going to be discussed politically. I guess why they are less glamorous is because it’s the voting procedure prior to what’s going to be implemented in society,” senior Alex Parks said.
Kat-Sarafianos
“What makes midterm elections less glamorous is that they don’t actually have a direct outcome of who is going to be ruling the country, whereas in the real elections, decide what is actually going to happen. I think people wipe off midterm elections because they don’t have time or they make excuses while they take normal elections seriously,” sophomore Kat Sarafianos said.
Jack-Knoesel
“Every election is important because you are voting on things that are going to affect you. I think the reason midterm elections aren’t as important because there is no really glamorous kinda offices going on like presidential. We don’t really have any senators who are going on, I think a few house candidates. So the bigger offices that people more glamorize, those aren’t up for election,” senior Jack Knoesel said.
Keytonna-Aguioera
“They are important because people should get a say in like what’s going on around them, who is going to be elected because those are the people who are going to be like affecting our lives for year, or months. One thing that really puts people down is for starters, as a joke, the morning. No one wants to get up early in the morning. It’s pretty important stuff,” freshman Keytonna Aguioera said.

I really like how this was laid out. The pictures add a lot because you can see who is saying this, and that makes what their saying almost a little more personal, because you can tie that statement to a face.
