Student View: Thanksgiving

Student+View%3A+Thanksgiving

In the autumn of 1621, the Pilgrims and Wampanoag held a feast to celebrate the colony’s first successful harvest. They celebrated these days of thanksgiving as part of their religion. This led a start of new tradition. Today, Thanksgiving has become an annual national holiday marked by religious and a traditional meal including turkey. During this time, people give thanks to the people that they are thankful for.

Ana
“I would say I am most thankful for being given such a great opportunity to receive such a good education because I was born in the United States but my family is from a third world country and most children in third world countries, they don’t get to receive an education like I do; at least the ones that live in poverty and the fact that I was born into a family that was lucky enough to be able to move to the United States, even receive a education in Guatemala,” Junior Ana Ramirez said. “I am just so grateful for it because without my education…I just love learning so I just feel grateful to be able to have the chance.” Photo by Devesh Kumar

“I would have to say that I am most thankful for my sister, actually. She has helped me so much with not only going through school but I guess ‘teenagers years’,” Sophomore Kristine Cho said. “She has helped me edit stuff. She has helped me get through emotionally tough times. She is always there with a word of advice. I am just thankful for all the people around me who support me, who are there to like help me. Even though, they too have problems of their own, they are willing to actually take time out of their own lives to help me.” Photo by Devesh Kumar
