Student View: Semester Finals

Student+View%3A+Semester+Finals
It’s December! It’s almost time for the winter break meaning it is also almost time for finals. Anyone walking down the hallways here sees students exhibiting signs of built up pressure. Some students have been wanting their teachers to change their final from a traditional test to a project. They believe it might help relieving some of the stress they are feeling.

“A project because it’s more like-it shows more of what you have learned and it is not as stressful because sometimes for final, people can freak out about it and that doesn’t really show what they have learned over the year; it just shows how bad they are at taking tests,” sophomore Erica Garrison said. “I feel that projects are more relaxed.”

“I would probably have a project just because I could do it my way and it wouldn’t have to be a strict written test so it would be more personal to each person,” junior Quinn Miller said.

“I would rather have a project for a final because they are easier and you would probably get a better grade on it than taking a test,” freshman Anushah Choudhry said.

“A test: I am really good at test taking I feel like. Test have an analytical sense and projects are easier to score higher on but I guess with tests, its all just really straight forward,” sophomore Drew Webber.

“As much as I would like to have a project for a final in every class, I recognize that in certain classes, it’s just not possible like in math; you kinda can’t do that. If you can, it’s not a very great representation of what you have learned all semester but in classes like Integrated English or Social Studies, I think it is more important that you do a project because you really have time to focus on the themes of the class and connect them,” senior Kristen Tarr said. “I know like in AP US last year when we did our documentary final and in AP World when we did our documentary final, we really got to focus on our argument and focus on themes. I thought that was way more important than going through and doing a multiple choice test.”
