Baseball throttles Boonville, continues regular season success

The RBHS boys’ baseball team capitalized on Boonville’s weaknesses yesterday evening, winning 11-2 and capping off what has been a successful five-game win streak so far this season.
RBHS tacked an early advantage, earning two runs in the bottom of the first, signaling that that it was once again the Bruins’ night.
“We gave ourselves a little breathing room when we scored two in the first,” senior outfielder Taten Lyngstad said,  “so everyone was able to just get comfortable and play the way we’ve been playing.”
It was apparent early on that Boonville struggled to a certain degree against RBHS, managing to score their first two points of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. At the same time, the Bruins had already tacked on 11 points to the scoreboard and had created what would eventually be an insurmountable lead.
Lyngstad believes that the team’s adjustments against Boonville’s roster partly contributed to the early run.
“They had a pretty good pitcher on the mound, but we just settled in and picked him apart until we were able to blow the game open,” Lyngstad said. “I think I performed my role as a lead off guy pretty well today. I was able to get myself on and it just kinda started a ‘follow the leader’ type of deal, and we were able to put up 11 runs from that.”
Despite RBHS’s successful efforts throughout the game, senior outfielder Cole Evans still believes that the team as a whole could slightly polish certain aspects of their game, especially when going up against an opponent like Boonville.
“Today I think we did great defensively, but offensively we just needed to wake up our bats a little earlier in the game than when we did,” Evans said. “We know that Boonville is always a good team and they always come ready to play, and we knew not to let up cause once you let a team like Boonville to stay in the game, they are going to capitalize on that.”
Last evening’s game has added to what has been a very successful season so far for the Bruins. Currently on a roll against their opponents, RBHS is 13-2 on the year, and is looking to continue their streak on Thursday, April 14 and 15 in the Columbia Tournament, which will be hosted at Rock Bridge.
“Our 5 game win streak is great, and the team is stoked about it, but we can’t let that get to any of our heads,” Evans said. “We just gotta take it one game at a time and have fun while doing that.”
