Boys’ basketball holds of Miller Career Academy in 70-53 win

Though it can be hard to judge a team based on just two games, the RBHS boy’s basketball already seems to living up to the early season excitement. This is currently thanks to a convincing 70-53 win over Miller Career Academy.
Junior Isiaih Mosley and senior Drew Boswell combined for more than half the teams’ total points with 22 and 12 respectively. With the first home game of the season also came continued hype brought on by the RBHS fans who had much to cheer about. This would include two huge dunks from Mosley who capitalized on an alley-oop and off a drive from the wing that gave the Bru Crew a reason to explode.
For Boswell, the home atmosphere and competitive nature lead to a memorable night.
“It was really great to see the boys playing so well,” Boswell said. “We had some late adversity but with the crowd and some of our younger guys we held strong and finish things off pretty well.”
Head coach Jim Scanlon had reasons to be nervous after his team allowed the Phoenix to come within 8 in the final minutes, but he says the team and coaching staff stayed calm and continued with the game plan.
“I remember in the huddle the guys weren’t really focused on the score,” Scanlon said. “We knew what we had to do to finish the game and we did exactly that.”
Although a blowout against a formidable opponent could lead to increased egos for some players, Boswell says he won’t allow the team to get too ahead of themselves as they move forward to the Ozark Shootout on Dec. 9.
“We’re playing in a fantastic tournament this weekend but we’re all ready to go,” Boswell said. “No matter what we know what we need to win against whoever we play.”
