Boys’ basketball runs through JCHS with impressive shooting display

After suffering their first loss of the season against Hogan Prep 57-66, the RBHS boys’ basketball team knew they would have to come out . Tonight hey did exactly that as the rivalry didn’t seem to add very much pressure and the Bruins would go on to blow out Jefferson City High School in a convincing 74-57 win on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The team was able to make 12 three-pointers over the course of the game which greatly outdoes the Bruins poor shooting against Hogan Prep in which only four threes were made. The team also came together on defense as they created nine forced turnovers to fluster the Cyclone offense throughout the night.
For Boswell, the only way to come back from their tough loss was to come together as a team and learn from their mistakes.
“We were really motivated,” Boswell said. “We had to make a statement after our loss.”
Head coach Jim Scanlon says he was very happy with the team’s overall shooting display and thought it was a huge step in the right direction after inconsistency shooting from beyond the arc.
“I think it shows how much can change in one game because we were shooting much better and with a lot more confidence,” Scanlon said. “We’re going to need that to continue and become more easy for us to do later on.”
Though the usually tight contest against JCHS wasn’t as intense as in previous years, Scanlon says he won’t allow the team to get too ahead of themselves as they move forward to face Lincoln College Prep on Friday at 7 p.m.
“I think the Hogan game was a wake up call for our guys,” Scanlon said. “And since we have a lot more to go this season I’m happy with where the team is going at the moment.”
