Throughout my life, music has been a helpful tool in dealing with both hardships and happy times.  Although I have a large diverse playlist, there a few songs I always listen too.  because of how they have impacted me as a person. I strongly feel that without music people would would struggle more than they already are.

Music is a great form of expression and is helpful for  someone to release stress. Music is a powerful and a good way to get in tune with emotions. According to Nielsen Music on average, Americans listen to about 32 hours of music each week.  Millions of people listen to music all day every day because of how powerful each lyric can be  to us and our lives. These five songs are not nearly all of the music that  that have truly helped me throughout my life. That’s what’s so great about music– there are so many different genres and songs  that can help any person going through any emotion or event in his or her  life.

Here are five songs that that have helped me throughout some of my most memorable and toughest moments:

“To make you feel my love” by Adele

My mom has always been my best friend. I looked up to her for everything like every six-year-old does. Every time we got in the car, she would play Adele’s album, and we would sing along to every one of her songs. This song was my favorite because my mom and I knew it so well we could probably sing it backwards. Adele was a part of a lot of my car rides growing up,including long trips, which she helped keep entertaining.

“The Climb” by Miley Cyrus

As a nine-year-old, I was obsessed with Hannah Montana and her show on Disney Channel. I most certainly watched every episode. But I also listened to Miley Cyrus’s  music religiously.I am sure my parents hated listening to Miley Cyrus in the car and on the tv anytime I was around. I saw her as such a role model because her show always had good lessons, and she  defined my early childhood. I thought she was the coolest person ever. Her song “The Climb,” is a slower song that just is talking about obstacles that we go through. At this young age, a lot of music made an impression on me,so I am glad that Miley became a music role model for me.

“Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson

As I got older, I dealt with low self-esteem when I first started middle school because it was a different environment from elementary school  and my confidence lowered, so I would  listen to this song over and over again when I felt like I wasn’t cool enough or when I didn’t have enough confidence in myself to have my own opinion. Her lyrics “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” showed me that  I am my own person and whatever knocks me down only builds me up to be a stronger person.

“Let it go” by James Bay

Middle School was filled with a lot of stress for my family. I dealt with my parents getting a divorce and multiple family deaths. I will always be so thankful for this song during this time in my life. It taught me that I have to let negative things out of my life in order to move on. Every time I listened to the song I felt more motivated to move on in my life no matter the situation. One of my favorite lyrics from the song is  “everything that’s wrong, leave it to the breeze.” This verse helped me realize I can’t be in control of everything that happens, and I have to just learn from whatever happens.

“Angels” by Khalid

When I entered high school, I learned  a lot about my priorities and who’s really there for me. In the song “Angels,” the artist sings about how our guardian angels are always surrounding us. During this time in my life  I sometimes experience bad days with anxiety and dealing with typical high school problems , so when I hear this song I remember that this isn’t the end,and  better days will always come. Entering high school is a weird and confusing time, especially when you are trying to find the right crowd and friends who truly care about you. This song reminds me of the people  who are really there for my well being and helps me understand  that I am okay if someone doesn’t need to be in my life.
