[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ophomore Caroline Cole, an attacking center midfielder, scored three goals against Battle on April 14, helping the Bruins win (6-2) over the Spartans.  The team is now [9-2] on the season and will compete again on April 16, where they will travel to Illinois to play Quincy Senior High School.
“I think that me being able to contribute to the teams scoring is a very big part of what a I do for the team,” Cole said. “ [Senior] Claire Cain, [freshman] Hannah Juengermann and I are all in the attacking mid-position so for all three of us our role on the team is finding those through balls and shots for ourselves and the rest of our teammates.”
Juengermann, who scored in the 67th minute, describes her goal as a fantastic feeling, considering it was her first career goal. She said she was thankful for the goal because the team had been tied with Battle for a while and time was running out.
[quote]“I feel as though that once we got that third goal, the whole team started to really just push it and we got re-energized,” Juengermann said. “It was like a switch flipped.”[/quote] When the whole team doesn’t have much energy, Juengermann places a lot of significance on teamwork and communication as she considers these traits to be the most important when trying to score.
“Those factors allow the team to calm down, connect well and just have fun with it,” Juengermann said. “Those factors really came into play the last 15 minutes of our game against Battle and I think anyone watching would say the same.”
During practices, a lot of time is spent on shooting drills, which Cole attributes to both the team’s success and scoring.
“Whether it’s shooting lines or scrimmaging, the goal of the game is to score,” Cole said. “These drills really help us for our games because it allows us to practice our range of shooting from farther out or closer.”
With less than a month until the district tournament, any win leading up to the postseason is crucial. To Cole, the most recent win gives the team confidence going into future games not just because of scored goals, but because she believes the game was played well as a team.
“We possessed the ball really well through the back building all the way up to the forwards,” Cole said. “We will strive to do [that] again in our future games.”
