NBA legend Kobe Bryant was one of nine people who passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant, two of Gianna’s middle school basketball teammates, their parents, the team’s assistant coach, and the pilot, were among the other eight who investigators identified as dead.

Iraqi protesters resumed their strikes in Baghdad against the government for the poor pace of political reform on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020. Advocates gave an ultimatum stating demonstrations would escalate if their demands weren’t met within a week. Retaliation condemning government corruption, poor public services and job scarcity started Oct. 1. Protesters demanded the ending of Iraq’s early elections and sectarian political system, as well as the decreased involvement of the ruling elite. They also detested the recent assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and an Iraqi militia leader on Jan. 2, 2020 outside Baghdad’s international airport.
