Questionable ideologies turn into damaging mindsets

Sarah Mosteller March 28, 2020
Throughout elementary school, I believed when boys pestered me it meant they had a crush on me. That mindset didn't put me at risk of dating violence at a young age, but in middle and high school where flirting is more common those beliefs make me more susceptible to abusive, manipulative, or violent relationships than girls who were taught consent.

The Wasian complication

Isaac Yontz March 19, 2020
Filipino and white culture are polarized, and it makes being somewhere in between confusing. Family meals make memories, shape habits

Audrey Novinger March 14, 2020

If one peeked into my pale-yellow kitchen on any given day of the week between 6 and 7 p.m., he or she would glimpse my family of four seated in tall, wooden, swivel-backed chairs around a circular table,...

Nostalgia stirs introspection

Bailey Stover February 25, 2020
Talking about how my life has changed becomes increasingly difficult when I struggle to recall the sequence of my youth. The only consistent memory my Swiss cheese brain has kept safe from time’s thieving grasp has been the Sunday mornings I spent with my grandpa in his house, which hasn’t changed since I was born.

Housing reparations necessary to counteract redlining, institutionalized racism

Will Cover February 24, 2020
Housing has been the most egregious instance of discrimination in America's economy, with a 32.5% gap in homeownership between black and white Americans. This in turn drives a massive racial wealth gap because of the economic importance of owning a home. Therefore, housing reparations are needed to increase black homeownership and counteract existing biases.

US meddling in the Middle East increases instability, terrorism

Will Cover February 23, 2020
Although the aim to stop global terrorism must inarguably be a goal of the U.S., the War on Terror and U.S. engagement in the Middle East will only serve to do the exact opposite by fueling anti-American sentiment.

Will Cover February 21, 2020
