Affirmative action proves vital for diversity

While opponents of affirmative action say it decreases equity because of higher standards put on some racial groups, it is imperative that colleges consider race in their admissions to ensure diversity. Race should, however, play a reduced role in acceptance, and instead be a way to understand an applicant in a holistic context.

RBHS forensics competed in Troy Buchanan High School’s debate tournament on Nov. 2nd. The team won fourth place overall in sweepstakes and took home seven individual trophies.

Bruins drop district quarterfinal game to Blue Springs

Down 17-10 late in the fourth quarter, the Bruins were in dire need of a touchdown. Senior quarterback Grant Hajicek took the snap and danced from foot to foot, scanning down the field for receivers with golden helmets and white jerseys. He saw senior running back Miles Cheatum running a wheel route.

CPS switches substitute service, experiences shortage

Columbia Public Schools (CPS) switched substitute teacher providers from Kelly Services to Edustaff this year. The change brought a substitute shortage as CPS spokesperson Michelle Baumstark said Edustaff only retained 75 percent of hirees from the previous company Kelly Services. Insufficient substitute applications also contributed to the deficit.
