When people come across senior Yousef Binalsheikh’s (pronounced bin-al-shake) name, it can appear as an impossible tongue-twister. In Binalsheikh’s eyes, cases of other people butchering his name represent a linguistic and cultural bridge that spans from his home country of Saudi Arabia to the United States.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application made additional updates for its 2019-20 application. The adjustments include an increase in the Need Analysis Income Threshold, an update to the online website, a new feature for error notifications and modifications to the third-step verification process for the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE), a part of the Department of Homeland Security, according to Nitrocollege.com and Ifap.ed.gov.

Boys’ soccer victorious in district semifinal match against Hickman

With a record of 20-4 heading into the district semifinal match Nov. 5, the boys’ soccer team exuded confidence. After winning eight of their last 10 regular season games, the Bruins delivered in the class 4 district 9 semifinal match and came out the victors against local rival Hickman High School (HHS) with a score of 1-0. The Bruins gained their third win against HHS, having already won the teams’ two regular season meetings. The Bruins will play against Jefferson City High School (JCHS) 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at Battle High School for the district championship.

Girls’ tennis takes top five finishes in individual state tournaments

After losing a closely contested team match in the state quarterfinals against St. Teresa’s Academy, 4-5, Oct. 19, the girls’ tennis team hoped to capture two titles for the singles tournament and doubles tournament in the Class 2 individual state championships.

Four choirs to perform in fall concert

On Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. the chamber choir, advanced treble chorus, tenor/bass chorus and treble choir will play in their fall concert. The concert is scheduled to last a little over an hour. Repertoire includes madrigals, ballads, gospel, spirituals, and contemporary choral music. The four choir groups have been preparing for their first concert since the beginning of the school year.
