Meet Lauren Livesay, candidate for student body secretary

Meet Lauren Livesay, candidate for student body secretary

Why are you running for this position?
I am running for the secretary position because I ran for it my sophomore year and really enjoyed it and being a part of Student Council. I didn’t just want to be a representative I wanted to be a leader. I wanted to have a bigger part in student government because I care about it more than anything and running for secretary seemed like a good way to go.
What impact do you hope to make while in office?
The impact I hope to make in office is keeping the meeting agendas organized and readable. I plan on working hard to make the student council as successful as possible if I am elected and I won’t let the rest of the students down. I promise to devote my time and effort to the council and do my absolute best to continue the success of the council for the next year to come.
What have you done to campaign?
To campaign I have put up signs and made stickers. I have created slogans like “Vote for Lauren, She ain’t Borin” and “Lauren Livesay, she LIVES for what you have to SAY” in order to catch people’s attention. I also created a Facebook group giving people the date and time in which the voting booths would be open.
What makes you qualified for the position?
I feel I am qualified for this position because I am organized and hard working. I am not overloaded with other responsibilities so it would be easy for me to devote a great deal of time and effort into my position. I have also participated in Student Council before and been a part of groups like Junior Leadership Columbia where I have learned the vital skills of being a successful leader in my community.
What qualities do you have that would make you a good candidate for the office?
Qualities that i have that would make me a good candidate include being a good listener and I pay attention to detail and make sure things get done. I have a lot of free time, so I would be able to devote a lot of time to this council and I’m hardworking and opinionated. I believe those qualities are especially important in being a secretary or any leader in student council.
What politician do you model your approach after?
I don’t have a politician that I model my approach after. Student Council isn’t really a place for political views, so my approach was just to grab people’s attention and let them know that I mean business. I plan on sharing my ideas and opinions at the meetings if I am elected; however, none of them are really modeled of anyone specific.
Where do you see yourself politically in 10 years?
Politically, in 10 years, I see myself voting and participating in the everyday political decision making of US citizens, but I don’t necessarily find myself participating hugely in politics.
How are you reaching out to the community to help your campaign.
As far as reaching out to the community in my campaign, I am really just sticking to the Rock Bridge campus. Elections are entirely dependent on the juniors and sophomores of this year and they will be voting here in the end so I believed the best territory to campaign was simply at the school itself.
What are your ideas on the playground additions on the north side of school?
As for my ideas on the playground in the north side of school, I don’t really mind them. The playground had to be removed from the south lot to accommodate for the new construction of the gym so it was just a compromise for the kids who played on the old one.
What do you think the student body is looking for in a candidate?
I believe the student body is looking for someone who is organized and can get things done. They need someone who is adaptable to change because with all the new school changes the officers will have to prepare for the future freshman class coming to Rock Bridge and getting the word out so that they want to join Student Council. Student Council is extremely important to this school and gets a lot of things done in terms of events and fundraisers, so they need a candidate who is hard working and willing to do the jobs that come with their role in office.
