One of my favorite things about the winter season is the warm holiday drinks. I will purposefully get up 20 minutes earlier than normal just so that I can go to my favorite coffee shop just get a cup to warm me at the beginning of the day. Sometime’s just sitting down watching movies and drinking hot chocolate is enough to put me in the holiday mood.
I can’t be the only person that feels this way, so I decided to share the festive cheer this year with my crafty Christmas gifts. I found this idea on Pinterest and was intrigued to try it for myself. Hot Cocoa Ornaments: not only a wonderful winter drink, but also a great decoration for the festive Christmas tree.

You will need:

  • small glass/plastic ornaments
  • packets of your favorite hot chocolate (Swiss Miss is my pick)
  • Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips (or just plain crushed peppermint, optional)
  • milk chocolate chips
  • mini marshmallows
  • a piece of paper

  1. Start by washing all of your glass/plastic ornaments. You are putting food into these, you’ll want them to be clean.
  2. Next you should construct a paper funnel. To do this, take a piece of paper and mold it into this shape. For it to stay structured, it helps to use some tape to hold it in place.
  3. After constructing your funnel, place the narrow end of it into the opening of the ornament and pour one packet of hot chocolate mix in.
  4. Your next step will be to add the chocolate chips. Be careful when placing them into the ornament because if you drop them in too harshly they will disappear underneath the hot chocolate powder. Add desired amount of chips, making a distinguishable layer on top of the drink mix.
  5. Then you will insert the peppermint baking chips. These will form another layer on top of the chocolate chips. Though these are optional, they add the perfect holiday peppermint flavor.
  6. Now your finishing touch is the marshmallows. Add these, cap the ornament and then you are finished!

I ended up going all out and having a blast making these ornaments. I also found some mason jars that I modified this DIY to fill with my peppermint hot cocoa as well! Enjoy!
