The crippling effects of cellphones on teenagers

The+crippling+effects+of+cellphones+on+teenagers

Teenagers are used to being nagged about their posture and their phone use, but what if they create the same problem?

In our changing world filled with innovation, recreation, and modification, where a 4×2 piece of metal can get you news before any paperboy, it’s easy to see the short term effects that that the “age of devices,” is having on society. Effects such as the lack of face to face communication as pointed out by Brandon Copeland, the author of “The Decline of Face to Face Communication,”  or the decrease in exercise for kids, as electronics take over adolescent entertainment, as pointed out by Dennis Cauchon, author of “Children Under House Arrest.”
But what may be an even worse consequence of the inclusion of smartphones into our daily lives, comes not in the form of social contact, or decreasing play time, but in the form of lifelong problems sprouting from one basic concept. Though many almost take them for granted, they may become a detrimental side effect of the age of device. The nature of the structure of our bodies, our Posture.
To accommodate for constantly looking down necks are constantly under more stress. A recent study from the National Institute of Health showed the effects of texting and standing on the spinal cord. At the greater angle that someone looks down there is greater and greater pressure on the neck, nearly that of carrying a child. Since teens are spending more and more time texting, they are arguably at the greatest risk for injury.
Questions:
Are you conscious of your posture when you’re using your phone?
Are you worried about the long term effects on your posture of using a smartphone?
Do you think posture while using smart phones should be focused on, or is it irrelevant?

Its like, not that relevant but its also not irrelevant since its something people should think about when they’re on their phones compared to whats going on right now. I think this article is cool! I think the “Bria Trent” pic is lacking but otherwise it is a good story about a topic that is relevant to every teenager.

I found this article to be entertaining as well as informative. We are teens no we aren’t thinking about our posture! lol. You say the affects could catch up with us in the future, well we aren’t worried about that either. At most we are worried about staying up to date with social media or relevant. This was a good topic to write about though because my generation has put an emphasis on cell phones.
