A 1-0 loss is always painful, especially when it is a team’s seventh straight. On May 2, After St. Dominic scored a goal in the 58th minute, the Bruins struggled in an attempt to tie the game, but the defense and goaltending they faced outlasted them.
“With six seconds left in the game we had a breakaway,” junior soccer player Ronni Farid said. “However it was our one player versus multiple of their strong defenders.”
The Bruins have faced an arduous season, however they have little time left to prepare for the postseason. Head coach Gary Drewing is working to help the players achieve their aspirations.
“We are very fatigued and injured,” Drewing said. “We made some tactical adjustments to help cover the field on our tired legs. We will see what looks the best during our last four games and be ready to go for the postseason.”
Senior soccer player Sydney Griggs, who will play at the University of Central Missouri, is enjoying her last few games at RBHS. Like the other players on the team, she has lofty aspirations for the postseason.
“It was hard because we played such a great game,” Griggs said. “Our goals are to win one game and finish out the season strong, move past districts and try to make it to state.”
As of now, the team is attempting to regroup from the unfortunate streak in the last few games before their MSHSAA district tournament.
“We always learn from our past games,” Farid said. “Specifically our losses, when we realize the things we can do differently to succeed. This game taught us that we can play very well with our new inter connective line up with more midfielders.”
However, Drewing is careful not to change too much to keep the confidence of the team running high.
“The message is the same,” Drewing said. “We have played a tough schedule on short rest and have dropped some games. Even with a few losses we should come out of the season 100 percent confident in our ability to compete with our postseason opponents.”
