Though it is a challenge to predict post-season play solely based off of five games, the RBHS boys’ basketball team has set the tone early this season. Not only did the Bruins win tonight versus Miller Career Academy (MCA), but they did so in a dominating fashion. The Bruins almost doubled MCA’s score, coming out on top 80-44 and advancing to 4-1 on the season.
Senior shooting guard Jamonta Black significantly contributed to the Bruins win with 14 points and feels confident about his team’s ability to succeed and collect wins.
“We have a very versatile team with a lot of weapons,” Black said. “It’s hard for teams to lock down on us because we can do just about everything.”
“I’m most proud of our defense,” Patrick said. “We came out to start the second half on a huge run, forcing lots of turnovers and scoring off of those turnovers.”
Black echoes Patrick in crediting the defense. He is proud of the Bruins tenacity and ability to recover.
“Our perseverance and defense definitely tilted the momentum in our favor, especially in a hostile environment,” Black said. “They were getting tips and deflections and then points off of those.”
The remainder of the season excites Patrick and he sees success in the future for his team.
“I feel great about the rest of the season,” Patrick said. “I’m feeling another great run back to the Final 4 and winning it this year.”
