Club fair to occur on Friday

The+club+fair+this+year+is+going+to+be+in+the+main+commons+from+10+p.m.+to+1+p.m.+on+Friday.
The club fair this year is going to be in the main commons from 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

The club fair is a staple of RBHS culture, and this year there are a lot more clubs signed up to advertise. The fair will be from 10 a.m to 1 p.m Friday during A lunch and B lunch. Clubs gather at tables lining the main commons to advertise their organization.
Originally, there were 35 spots available, but according to Activities Secretary Ramona Kroenke, the fair expanded to accommodate the 41 clubs signed up.
“This year was a pretty good turnout. The slots filled up fast,”  Kroenke said. “The purpose of the club fair is to find the club you’re really interested in and be able to talk to club members and see what they’re about.”
The various clubs look forward to the club fair, as it draws the most recruits for the year, Junior Vishnu Arun said. Arun, a leader of Scholar Bowl, is hoping to gain more numbers this year. Recruitment is especially important as Scholar Bowl is a relatively new club, as it was started second semester last year.
“We hope to gain a lot of club members through the club fair this year,” Arun said. “Scholar Bowl has a lot of potential to gain a lot of new members, and so I think we’ll have some success this year.”
While the club fair is mostly for advertising, Junior Vignesh Kumar of Chess Club thinks that it serves a greater purpose. For Kumar, it is a chance to meet people that share his interests.
“From this club fair, I hope people recognize that it exists, and I hope that they find that if they join, that they will find a circle of people that they share the same hobby with,” Kumar said. “And, that is a great way to connect with other people and make friends.”
In terms of the general RBHS culture, Kumar thinks partaking in an extracurricular activity is beneficial to students because it highlights the balance between social life and academic life that RBHS emphasizes.
“It’s definitely important because it’s fairly easy to create a club at Rock Bridge, and it ties into freedom with responsibility,” Kumar said. “But, it also means that you have the freedom to create small communities so that people can feel like they’re a part of the school itself. I think that by having students present the clubs, it not only advertises for the club, but it also shows how many clubs there are, how many communities there are and how many types of people there are at Rock Bridge.”
